The Only Graded Copy Known! Those select advanced hobbyists who have pursued the iconic 1980 Charlotte O’s Police Orange Border team set are well aware that the Cal Ripken minor league rookie is not the toughest card in the issue. That distinction belongs to Pepper Girls “mascot” offering. The Orange Borders were never issued in team set form and were ultimately distributed to “Queen City” youngsters by law enforcement professionals over a couple of weeks during the summer. Purportedly, only one or two cards were handed out at a time. Understandably, burgeoning stars like Cal Ripken garnered the most interest while non-players such as “The Pepper Girls” squad were ultimately discarded. An already near impossible proposition was made even more elusive by their finding a permanent home in the “circular file”. To date, less than five 1980 Charlotte O’s Police Orange Border sets of 25 cards are known to be complete. Graded NM 7 by PSA. This 34 year-old regional card is framed by razor-sharp corners along with a bright orange perimeter and crisp surface registration. The “tips” reverse is problem-free with bright blue typeface. Will you do what it takes to finally complete your near set? The remaining cards in this highly prized edition (including a single Ripken) are offered elsewhere in this auction.
