En route to their first World Series title since 1933, The New York Giants opened the 1954 campaign by upending the defending Senior Circuit champion Dodgers by a 4-3 count at the Polo Grounds. Limited to just four hits off of Brooklyn pitchers Carl Erskine and Clem Labine, New York made the most of their safeties, with three going for home runs (including a sixth-inning solo shot by Willie Mays that provided the margin of victory). For the Dodgers, Hall of Famer Roy Campanella homered twice in a losing effort. Encapsulated and Graded FR 1.5 by PSA, this full ticket was issued at the since-razed Harlem venue for that 1954 season opener. The crisp voucher features printed seating event details, as well as the facsimile signature of Giants president Horace Stoneham. This is the lone graded specimen. While price stampings (likely rendered at the Polo Grounds box office) account for the technical grade, the ticket presents much nicer with strong perforations, sharp edges/corners, a clean reverse and “OPENING DAY” stampings that will forever be a welcome sight.
