Widely cited as the benchmark for dominance in professional sports, the collective effort of the 1927 New York Yankees is inspiring in its every last categorical statistic. Headlines include league bests in team batting average (.307), home runs (158) and runs (976). The astounding totals beg the question: what couldn’t this team do? A well-oiled machine on the baseball diamond, those ’27 pinstripers tried their hand at softball (or at least saw fit to endorse one). A most unusual keepsake, this 12-inch orb with raised seams is autographed in black-ink by (10) members of that juggernaut roster. The sweet spot is the customary home to Ruth (“5” strength). On the adjacent east panel are: Woods (trainer, “5-6” strength); Meusel (“4” strength); Pennock (“4-5” strength); Dugan (“3” strength); and Collins (“4” strength). On the north panel, ink has completely disappeared, though the pen impressions remain complete and legible. Includes Gazella, Bengough, Gehrig and Ruether. Full photo LOA from JSA. This item has a reserve (estimated value: $2000-$3000).
