Providing Pearl Harbor payback Lt. Colonel Jimmy Doolittle led a squadron of sixteen bomber planes in a 4/18/42 attack on the Japanese mainland known as the “Doolittle Raid”. Presented are (21) cachets signed by members of this historic mission. Top ranking signature is J. H. Doolittle (“8-9”) signature strength in blue ballpoint pen on a “Douglas MacArthur” cachet postmarked “1/26/85”, just months before the U.S. Congress promoted Doolittle to the rank of full (four star) General. All of the offered cachets display in excellent condition. The Doolittle cachet measures 6-1/2 x 3-1/2”, all others measure 9-1/2 x 4”. The “Doolittle Raiders” totaled eighty mission volunteers whose act of heroism provided a tremendous morale boost to America.
