In addition to his well-established “Happy” moniker, A.B. Chandler could have fittingly been dubbed “authoritative.” The latter term refers to lofty positions as Baseball Commissioner and Governor of Kentucky, where he was instrumental in integrating Major League Baseball and Kentucky’s public schools. In his second term in the political capacity, Chandler endorsed this 1958 document. Composed on an 8-1/2 x 13” sheet, a “Justice of the Peace” appointment is signed by Chandler in black-ink fountain pen (“9-10” strength). Full photo LOA from JSA.
The crisp document has a gold-colored Kentucky State Seal adhered to the lower left and is a most unusual Baseball Hall of Fame artifact in that its subject was acting in his equally renowned political career.
