Description

Prior to winning “The Greatest Game Ever Played” and perennially contending for NFL supremacy, the original Baltimore Colts were a woeful franchise in the short-lived AAFC (All-America Football Conference). That incarnation was a separate entity and its memorabilia is among the rarest in the hobby. As for an AAFC Colts library, you need look no further than this lot of (15) programs issued for 1947 through 1949 Colts games during the club’s brief run in the upstart circuit. Covers/pages are intact throughout in these well-kept survivors featuring since-defunct franchises such as the Los Angeles Dons, Brooklyn Dodgers and Chicago Hornets. Included is a September 7, 1947 Memorial Stadium-issued program from the first-ever Colts game! More on our website.

Includes:

1947

September 7 vs. Brooklyn Dodgers (Memorial Stadium); 28-page guide presents nicely and was issued for the first-ever Baltimore Colts game and first-ever win (16-7, ironically the same score as the most infamous defeat in the history of the subsequent NFL Colts).

1948

September 5 vs. New York Yankees (Memorial Stadium); 32-page guide presents beautifully

October 5 vs. Cleveland Browns (Memorial Stadium); 32-page guide presents nicely with minor spine wear and handwritten numeric notations on front cover

October 10 vs. San Francisco 49ers (Memorial Stadium); 32-page guide presents minimally at the (EX) plateau with crease-free covers/crisp pages intact

October 15 vs. Los Angeles Dons (Los Angeles Coliseum); 20-page guide presents nicely with hint of a vertical compacting fold

November 21 vs. Los Angeles Dons (Memorial Stadium); 32-page publications presents beautifully with a very faint hint of a vertical compacting fold

December 5 vs. Buffalo Bills (Memorial Stadium); 32-page guide presents beautifully

December 12 vs. Buffalo Bills (Memorial Stadium); 32-page guide from AAFC Colts lone postseason game, an Eastern Division tie-breaker, cover/pages intact with vertical compacting fold

1949

September 2 vs. Los Angeles Dons (Los Angeles Coliseum); 20-page guide presents nicely

September 25 vs. Cleveland Browns (Babe Ruth Stadium; aka Memorial Stadium); 20-page program presents minimally (EX-MT) with photos of opposing quarterbacks Graham and Tittle on the front cover

October 15 vs. Brooklyn-New York Yankees (Babe Ruth Stadium; aka Memorial Stadium); 20-page guide has minor front cover wear and vertical compacting fold, covers/pages completely intact

November 6 vs. San Francisco 49ers (Babe Ruth Stadium; aka Memorial Stadium); 20-paqge program presents beautifully

November 20 vs. Los Angeles Dons (Babe Ruth Stadium; aka Memorial Stadium); 20-page guide presents wonderfully with faint age-induced toning on the covers, interior pages are (NM-MT)

November 27 vs. Buffalo Bills (Babe Ruth Stadium; aka Memorial Stadium); 20-page program presents nicely and was issued for the Colts’ last-ever AAFC game (the Colts were adopted into the NFL in 1950 for one unsuccessful season)
