Go the distance for this lot of (3) heavyweight boxing champion autographs with Muhammad Ali, James Braddock (d.1974) and Joe Louis (d.1981). Displaying flamboyant (“8-9”) quality the Ali ballpoint pen signature appears on the plain side of a 5-1/2 x 2-3/4” section of vintage stationary. Braddock’s (“8-9”) strength ballpoint pen signature graces the plain side of a 5-1/2 x 3-1/4” postcard. Louis’ (“8-9”) strength pencil endorsement appears on a 6 x 4-1/2” album page. Full photo LOAs: Ali and Braddock with JSA; Louis with PSA/DNA. More on our website.
The Ali signature is on the plain side of a vintage segment of religious stationary which bears the header “Rosary Shrine of St. Jude” on the opposite printed side. A compacting fold and several creases have minimal impact on the signature’s broad appeal.
The Braddock autograph is on the blank side of a prepaid U.S. Postal Service postcard. The opposite printed side of this unused postcard bears an image of Abraham Lincoln and a value of four cents. Braddock’s signature is accompanied by a personalized salutation which reads “To LJ Jacobs Best Wishes”.
The Louis signature is on an autograph album page which has the handwritten notation “Boxing” printed in unknown hand below the signature. The reverse side bears a Maxie Rosenbloom (d.1976) autograph (“9”) applied in pencil with a personalized salutation. The Rosenbloom autograph is noted on the accompanying Louis full photo LOA from PSA/DNA, however it is without authentication due to costs.
