Description

Seekers of the rare and obscure can bank on this lot of (11) 1923-78 player endorsed checks issued by professional baseball teams. Signed by team executives on the obverse these canceled checks feature printed Major/Minor League club headers and present in handsome condition. Key endorsements are: HOFer B. Terry signed twice (both “9”) on 1958 Jacksonville Braves check; 1927 Yankees pitcher “Dutch” Ruether (“9”) on 1953 New York Giants check; “Dutch” Rennert (“9”) on 1973 PCL check. Due to the official nature of the offered items they are considered self-authenticating. All included checks have one or two team executive signatures on the obverse. 5/15/28 Cincinnati Base Ball Club Company (Reds) made payable to Val J. Picinich (d. 1942) a former MLB player, endorsement grades (“9”) and is partially overlapped by bank cancellation stamp, check is drawn on the Fifth-Third National Bank of Cincinnati, check #5310 in the amount $706.00, check grades (EX) with bank cancellation punches that do not affect the endorsing signature

(Bill) Terry (d.1989) HOF player, who owned the Jacksonville Braves in 1958 and also signed the obverse as a team executive, signed in full as “William H. Terry” the endorsement grades (“9”) and is free of cancellation stamps, obverse signature signed as “Wm H Terry” grades (“9”), check is drawn on the Barnett National Bank of Jacksonville, check #14 in the amount of $75.80, check grades (VG-EX) with one compacting fold and bank cancellation punches that do not affect either signature, also included is an unsigned 1989 Perez-Steele postcard #41 from the “Celebration” series, Set # 5342/10,000.
