Description

Patiently gathered by a star-struck enthusiast, the signatures of early-1950s Major League stars make for a page-turning experience in this vintage leather-bound autograph book. The 6 x 4-1/8” booklet shows wear consistent with repeated trips to the ballpark. The (80-plus) black or blue ink scriptings average (“9”) strength with keys including: B. Brown, Combs, Dickey, Doby, Feller, Hutchinson, Rizzuto and Stengel. The above-mentioned signatures come with individual JSA certs/stickers. More on our website.

In all, (9) of the pages come with individual JSA certs/stickers attesting to the authenticity of the following signatures: B. Brown, Combs, Dickey, Doby, D. Fowler, A. Helfer (announcer), B. Hooper (d.1980), Hutchinson (d.1964), Rizzuto, J. Sharkey (boxer) and Stengel. The remaining signatures do not come with third-party certification but are believed to be authentic.

The original owner of this book was likely a female resident of an American League city, as the vast majority of autographs are from Junior Circuit players/coaches and many are personalized “To Isabel.” Judging from the players and teams, these autographs were likely gathered during the 1952 season. While a few of the signatures are unidentified, here’s a breakdown of team by team groupings:

1952 Boston Red Sox: Benton, Bolling, Brickner, Brodowski, Combs (coach), DeLock, Freeman, Gernert, Gumpert, Hudson, Lepcio, Lipon, Parnell, Piersall, Scarborough, Schmees, Schreiber (coach), V. Stephens (d.1968), Susce (coach), Vollmer and Wood

1952 Chicago White Sox: Rogovin and Zarilla

1952 Cleveland Indians: Doby, Feller, Garcia and Rosen

1952 Detroit Tigers: Dropo, Evers, Ginsberg, Hoeft, Hutchinson (manager, d.1964), Johnson, Kolloway, Lenhardt, Mapes, Mullin, Rolfe (coach), Trout and White (signed twice)
